The Department of Military Training of Vinnytsia National Agrarian University was established in accordance with a common order of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine No. 908/1825/1264/757.

In May 2015, the Department was able to train citizens of Ukraine from the Reserve Officers Training Program.

Since June 2017, the department has been subordinated to the Command of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In October 2017, the department made its first graduation of junior lieutenant of the reserve.

Every year from March, 1 to August, 20 the Military Training Department of VNAU conducts recruitment for the training program of reserve officers of Ukrainian citizens attaining higher education (or have already had a Bachelor's Degree). The training lasts for two years and it is carried out for the funds of individuals from September to May - one day a week.

The department provides training of reserve officers in such military accounting specialties as:
   The Combat Use of mechanized units.
   The Combat Use of engineer-sapper units.
   The Combat Use of units of radiation, chemical and biological protection.
   The Combat Use of pontoon-bridges.

Citizens of Ukraine (male and female) are admitted to the Military Training Department:
   applicants for higher education of higher education institutions;
   citizens who have already had a Bachelor's Degree, under 38 years of age;
   citizens who study at higher education institutions without a military department can receive military training at the Department of Military Training of Vinnytsia National Agrarian University.

To study at the Department of Military Training, a candidate must be eligible for military service upon the conclusion of the Military Medical Commission (in the year of entry), successfully pass competitive examination and conclude a contract .

Citizens who have expressed a desire to undergo military training submit the following documents:
   the application addressed to the Head of Admissions of the Military Training Department;
   a copy of the passport of a citizen of Ukraine (1,2,11 pages);
   a copy of the military registration card (for men);
   a copy of the identification code;
   3x4 photo cards - 4 pcs;
   certificate of suitability for military service given by the Military Medical Commission of the Military Commissariat at the place of registration (referral for the medical commission are obtained at the Department of Military Training).

The competitive selection includes:
   evaluation of learning success;
   professional psychological testing;
   assessment of the level of assimilation of the pre-draft training program;
   assessment of the level of physical fitness.

The department's students are granted a deferral from military conscription while training under the reserve officers training program.
